As someone who enjoys music and its power to bring people together, I find that incorporating music-themed “This or That” icebreaker questions into events can be a fun and engaging way to build connections among guests. By asking questions related to musical styles, artists, and experiences, you can encourage your attendees to share their opinions and preferences while also fostering a sense of community and shared interest.

How to incorporate Music themed This or That questions

To incorporate music-themed “This or That” questions into your event, follow these steps:

  1. Prepare a list of questions beforehand that are related to different musical styles, artists, and experiences. You can find inspiration from listening to various genres, attending concerts, or browsing online forums and social media groups.

  2. Print out the questions on cards or display them on a screen or a poster board. Encourage your guests to form small groups of 3-5 people and take turns asking each other the questions. You can also create a rotation system where each group moves on to the next question after a set amount of time (e.g., 2-3 minutes).

  3. Make sure everyone has a chance to answer each question and listen actively to their responses. Encourage follow-up questions, comments, and discussions that build on the initial answers. You can also share your own insights and opinions about music to keep the conversation flowing.

  4. After everyone has had a chance to answer all the questions, gather your guests in a larger group and ask them to share their favorite or most surprising answers. You can also use this opportunity to highlight any commonalities or connections that emerged during the activity.

  5. Consider using some of the insights or stories that came up during the “This or That” icebreaker as a springboard for further conversations and activities throughout the day. For example, you could organize a dance party with songs inspired by the questions or create a playlist that reflects your guests’ musical preferences.

Ideas on different themes of questions

To keep your music-themed icebreaker questions fresh and engaging, you can explore different themes and categories that are relevant to music. Here are some ideas:

  • Genres: Ask questions related to different musical styles and genres (e.g., “Rock or pop?” or “Jazz or classical?”).

  • Artists: Ask questions about popular musicians, bands, and composers (e.g., “Which artist do you prefer: Taylor Swift or Beyoncé?” or “What is your favorite band of all time?”).

  • Experiences: Ask questions that reference musical experiences and memories (e.g., “Have you ever been to a concert?” or “What was the first album you bought with your own money?”).

  • Instruments: Ask questions about various musical instruments and their players (e.g., “Which instrument do you wish you could play?” or “Who is your favorite guitarist?”).

  • Culture: Ask questions that reference musical culture, history, and current events (e.g., “What is your favorite music festival?” or “Which artist do you think will define this decade in music?”).

By incorporating these different themes of questions into your music-themed icebreaker activity, you can keep your guests engaged and entertained while also fostering a sense of community and shared interest. So why not give it a try and see how it can enhance your next event!
